Join Us for Another Exciting Workshop, as Part of the FCP Behavioral Health Lecture Series
The final workshop of the FCP 2016 Spring Series scheduled for May 4, 2015 is presented by Shannon Barnett, M.D and entitled “Mood Disorders and Self-Injury in Adolescents.”
Treatment of adolescents with mood disorders requires clinicians to adapt to the myriad of developmental changes that occur during adolescence. This workshop will include discussion on how to differentiate typical teenage behavior from symptoms of mood disorders and implications for diagnosis. Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic approaches for this clinically challenging population will also be discussed. Dr. Barnett will offer specific recommendations for the treatment of adolescents with self-injurious behavior.
Workshop Objectives:
At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to
- Identify three behaviors of a typical adolescent and three comparable behaviors with clinical significance
- Describe three psychotherapeutic skills that are particularly useful with adolescents
- Become familiar with two psychotherapeutic techniques that can be helpful when treating adolescents with self-injurious behaviors
