Join Us for Another Exciting Workshop this Spring!
The Second workshop of the FCP 2016 Spring Series is presented by Carisa Perry-Parrish, Ph.D.:Â Adolescent Emotional and Social Development: Sadness Regulation and Peer Acceptance
Adolescence is a developmental period marked by many changes in social and emotional functioning, leading to the ‘sturm und drang’ interpretation of the teen years. Indeed, relationships and friendships become increasingly important during this per iod, and increases are observed in normative self-consciousness as well as clinical risk for internalizing disorders (e.g., depression). Fortunately, most youth display healthy emotional and social development. This workshop will focus on understanding healthy development of sadness regulation (apart from depression) and how this aspect of emotion regulation relates to adolescent social/peer competence.
Workshop Objectives
- At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:
Identify normative emotional and social changes typical of adolescence - Understand evidence-based prevalence of increased emotional difficulties (e.g., depression) among adolescents
- Become familiar with evidence-based approaches to address adolescent difficulties with sadness regulation and interpersonal vulnerabilities
