Morning Workshop

At 8:30, Antolin M. Llorente, Ph.D., will present Cross-cultural Issues in Neuropsychology: Applied Implications Impacting Assessment.

This workshop is designed for professionals who assess and treat persons from ethnic, linguistic, and culturally diverse backgrounds, or those who wish to enhance and broaden their evaluative skills in this area. Ethical aspects, patterns of American immigration and their impact on psychological assessment, proper use of procedures and methodology to be employed with these populations, and how to distinguish between a disorder and normal development will be examined.

Workshop Objectives

• At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:
• Apply ethical principles applicable to the assessment of these populations.
• Describe the effects of American immigration patterns on psychological assessment.
• Differentiate between critical variables impacting the assessment of these groups.
• Learn important factors associated with the selection of psychological procedures to be used ith these groups.
• Utilize this information to address limitations of assessments with these individuals.

Antolin M. Llorente, Ph.D., is Associate Professor and Director of Neuropsychology, Department of Psychiatry, Penn State Hershey, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the editor of Principles of Neuropsychological Assessment with Hispanics: Theoretical Foundations and Clinical Practice (Issues of Diversity in Clinical Neuropsychology). Formerly, Dr. Llorente served on the faculty at the University of Hong Kong, University of Maryland, University of Houston, and Baylor College of Medicine. He is a clinical and experimental neuropsychologist and conducts evaluations and studies of adults and children in clinical, experimental, and forensic settings. He conducted his post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital, where he specialized in adults and children.

Afternoon Workshop

At 1PM, Alan Tepper, J.D., Psy.D., will present Ethical Principles Related to Clinical Supervision.

This workshop will explore the ethical and legal principles related to the provision of supervision in a variety of clinical settings. Dr. Tepper will explore such issues as legal exposure, record keeping practices, and boundary violations. This workshop fulfills the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology Continuing Education in supervision requirement for psychology post-doctoral intern supervisors that becomes effective December 1, 2015. This presentation will also satisfy ethics credit requirements for licensed mental health professionals and educators.

Workshop Objectives

At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:

• Understand the potential legal exposure associated with the provision of clinical supervision.
• Become familiar with the record keeping practices associated with the provision of clinical supervision.
• Understand the boundary issues associated with the provision of clinical supervision when making referrals and recommendations.

Alan Tepper, J.D., Psy.D., is a renowned psychologist/attorney specializing in representing mental health and medical professionals in licensing and disciplinary board proceedings. He also serves as an expert witness in forensic matters, with an emphasis in criminal, civil, and professional ethics matters.
