Foundations Community Partnership will feature Dr. Adam Douglass Brown in our next Spring mental health lecture series. Dr. Brown’s workshop, “Assessment and Treatment of Child and Adolescent Trauma: The Trauma Systems Therapy Approach,” will be held on Wednesday, April 4th at the Doylestown Health and Wellness Center (details below).

This presentation will present an overview of the impact of traumatic events, particularly interpersonal trauma, on children and adolescents. Definitions and prevalence of trauma will be presented, as well as a focus on assessment and treatment. A particular treatment model, the Trauma Systems Therapy approach will be discussed, along with the opportunity for participants to have a hands-on experience working up a case through the TST process.

Workshop Objectives

At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:
• Articulate the impact of trauma exposure on children and adolescents.
• Describe the role of the social environment in triggering and perpetuating emotional
and behavioral dysregulation in traumatized youth.
• Review the “Trauma Systems Therapy” model for assessing and treating childhood trauma.

Presenter: Adam Douglass Brown, Psy.D., is Clinical Assistant Professor, Senior Research Scientist at NYU Child Study Center and he also maintains a private psychotherapy practice. Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Brown was Coordinator of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and Trauma Systems Therapy at Children’s Village and Clinical Director of the Orchard School DayTreatment Program at Andrus Children’s Center. A highly regarded speaker, Dr. Brown has also provided individual, group and family psychotherapy to children at Four Winds Hospital, Astor Day Treatment Program for Children, and Metropolitan Center for Mental Health.
