Foundations Community Partnership Board Approves $105,000 in Grant Awards

Doylestown, PA (December 17, 2008) - In these tough economic times, financial support for non-profit groups and the individuals they serve is often the first to be impacted. In an effort to assist with the funding for those most in need, the Board of Directors of Foundations Community Partnership (FCP) has announced the approval of $105,000 in grant funding for eleven non-profit organizations located in Bucks County.

A $10,000 Emergency Grant was awarded to the Bucks County Housing Group's Wheelz2Work Program. This car donation program, located in Wrightstown, provides repaired cars to BCHG families who are working but are in need of reliable transportation to get to work, drop-off the children at a day care, or respond to other family needs or emergencies. When Wheelz2Work was informed that the rules regarding car repair grants from the Department of Public Welfare have been changed and the funding was cut for these families, Foundations Community Partnership responded immediately with an emergency grant. "We are pleased to provide Emergency Action 'crisis grants' to Bucks County, PA nonprofit human services organizations serving children, youth, and families that have an exceptional need for funds to continue services," said Ron Bernstein, Executive Director, Foundations Community Partnership. "Unfortunately, without funding and with our limited public transportation in Bucks County it would be virtually impossible for these families to get to where they need to be without the Bucks County Housing Group's Wheelz2Work Program."

"While Bucks County is an affluent county, homelessness, poverty and hunger are very real issues for many of our neighbors," said Rosemary Carroll, Coordinator, Wheelz2Work Program, Bucks County Housing Group. "We are thrilled to have Foundations' support of our efforts to expand services and help clients through the challenges they face as they work to transform their lives."

Two Capital Grants in the amount of $10,000 each were awarded to the Upper Bucks YMCA in Quakertown and the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown. The YMCA grant will be used to complete planned construction that will support the goal of affording greater opportunity to their residents (including those with special needs) and equipping their residents with the tools necessary to succeed in the community. The Michener grant will be used to provide opportunities for diverse audiences to develop a lifelong appreciation for and involvement in the arts by addressing the needs of adding more space to accommodate the children's education and exhibit area as well as planning the conversion of the Ann and Herman Silverman Pavilion into an Education Complex, allowing the creation of two multi-purpose classrooms and lecture space, an orientation area, and a children's gallery. Foundations Community Partnership's Bucks Innovation and Improvement (BIIG) Grants are offered on a competitive basis to non-profit human services organizations providing services to children and youth in Bucks County. In total, $75,000 was awarded to eight eligible grant applicants who will be developing innovative ideas and improving the quality of life for children, youth, and families in Bucks County.
