Doylestown, PA (March 9, 2012) – Foundations Community Partnership, a philanthropic foundation benefiting youth in Bucks County invites educators, counselors, parents, and mental health professionals to attend their workshop on “Treatment of Child and Adolescent Trauma: The Trauma Systems Therapy Approach” on Weds., April 4, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Doylestown Health & Wellness Center in Warrington.

Expert Adam Douglass Brown, Psy.D., Clinical Assistant Professor, Senior Research Scientist at NYU Child Study Center will present an overview of the impact of traumatic events, particularly interpersonal trauma, on children and adolescents. Definitions and prevalence of trauma will be presented, as well as a focus on assessment and treatment. A particular treatment model, the Trauma Systems Therapy approach will be discussed, along with the opportunity for participants to have a hands-on experience working up a case through the TST process.

Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Brown was Coordinator of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and Trauma Systems Therapy at Children’s Village and Clinical Director of the Orchard School Day Treatment Program at Andrus Children’s Center. A highly regarded speaker, Dr. Brown has also provided individual, group and family psychotherapy to children at Four Winds Hospital, Astor Day Treatment Program for Children, and Metropolitan Center for Mental Health.

Also coming up is “Evaluating Different Approaches for Supporting Children with Autism,” presented Stephen Shore, Ed.D., Assistant Professor of Special Education at Adelphi University on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Previously, there has been no true comparison between educational-behavioral­-developmental approaches for working with children on the autism spectrum. Dr. Shore will describe Applied Behavioral Analysis, TEACCH, Daily Life Therapy, Miller Method, and DIR. Other methods such as RDI and SCERTS will also be discussed.

In addition to working with children and talking about life on the autism spectrum, Dr. Shore presents and consults internationally on issues pertinent to education, relationships, employment, advocacy, and disclosure as discussed in his books “Beyond the Wall: Personal Experiences with Autism and Asperger Syndrome,” “Ask and Tell: Self-Advocacy and Disclosure for People on the Autism Spectrum” and the critically acclaimed “Understanding Autism for Dummies.” Dr. Shore has presented at the International Society for Autism Research, International Association of Special Education, Geneva Centre for Autism, Special Education Network in Asia, and the Autism Society of America, and his work has been published in Autism Spectrum Quarterly, Autism Asperger Digest, Autism Advocate and The Exceptional Parent.

Three (3) continuing education credits will be offered for PA Social Workers & Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, NBCC Counselors, PA Nurses and Act 48 credits.

Workshops are held at the Doylestown Health & Wellness Center Auditorium, 847 Easton Rd./Rt. 611, Warrington, PA 18976. Cost is $55 for each workshop.
